FFXI Gripe

So in my recent move I've bought a new HDTV. I had some very specific needs; I play a lot of games and can't have *any* lag, burn-in, etc. regardless of which system I'm playing; I want to be able to watch normal TV and VHS inputs lag-free as well; and I needed something not very expensive.

After a lot of research, I finally settled on one. Specifically, I purchased the "Sony KDF-E50A10Grand WEGA 50" LCD Projection TV", which was reported as lag-free at numerous sources. I managed to get it very inexpensively, and thus far I've been absolutely thrilled with it. I can plug in my old Atari 2600 and the games are lag-free. It's awesome.

However, there's one problem, and that problem is with the one game I play the most: Final Fantasy XI.

See, I've been keeping an online web log of my adventures in the game. I've been keeping it since 2004, and it's been a lot of fun to chronicle my journeys in the game.

When I first got my 360 I was thrilled by how great the game looks. And I couldn't wait to see how good it would look on HDTV.

As soon as I hooked the 360 up to my HDTV, I had to fire up FFXI and was amazed, once again, at how incredible the game looks in HD. Widescreen goodness, huge characters, huge environments, so awesome.

So where's the problem? Well, the problem is, when I go to take a screenshot of my HD-goodness, FFXI still just crops my images down to a 4:3 aspect ratio! GAH!

Example of 4:3 clipping

The thing is, the screenshots still look incredible, so I'm not complaining about that. What I'm complaining about is the fact that the damned things are clipped! How hard is it just to grab the full-width screen in the shots?
